Philip Lyons was born in Devon in 1955. From a young age he was interested in drawing and has very strong memories of his early years by the sea.
In 1975 he went to Bristol College of Art and design where the main theme of his work centred on colour and colour theory. In 1988 Philip trained at Goldsmiths College in London as an art therapist.
He went on to work with children in the Health Service in Cornwall. Working as a therapist influenced his painting considerably, leading to a more playful way of creating paintings and a simplification of shape and colour.
